Get to know the Tijuana Cultural Center

TIJUANA.- For nice way to relax and enjoy an afternoon with friends or family, you should check out CECUT, the Tijuana Cultural Center, located in the heart of Tijuana's Zona Rio.

The round and most prominent structure of the CECUT is affectionately named "La Bola" or "The Ball," an engrossing IMAX screen that is also a playful, contemporary space designed and built in 1982 by architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Manuel Rosen. In 2008, "El Cubo" (The Cube) was built to house three more galleries, all of which bring in more than 1 million visitors a year to the cultural center.

On exhibit now are shows of two major 20th-century Mexican artists: David Alfaro Siqueiros and notable surrealist Remedios Varo. Monumental engravings and woodcuts of multimedia artist Jose Hugo Sanchez are also on view in Gallery 3.
