Renowned Mexican Journalist Has Credit Cards Stolen; More Than $10,000 Spent By Thieves

Stores did not ask for any ID or signature, apparently

MEXICO.- One of Mexico's most influential journalists and fierce establishment critic, Denise Dresser, reported being robbed yesterday afternoon at a shopping mall in Coyoacan, Mexico City, while she rested on a bench.

According to "Sin Embargo's" report, a group of burglars approached the journalist, got her purse, and unrestrainedly purchased a total of $150,000 pesos ($10,182 dlls) in merchandise on three different locations of Sanborns (popular Mexican retailer and restaurant), unfortunately, no suspicion was raised at any of the stores, given that employees didn't asked the thief's for identification as owner of the credit cards through their ID.

Dresser reported the incident to the authorities, although she also reported the little help that was provided:

"Are policemen ornaments? I've just been robed in Coyoacan Center; a policemen came and went. Saying that he couldn't (or didn't want to) investigate. I guess I'll have to do it myself", wrote the journalist on her Twitter account, followed by a post tagging the capital's Police Chief in order to have a security camera review of the shopping center.

On the other hand, the Federal District's Secretary of Public Safety, Hiram Almeida, informed that his agency is currently reviewing the taping that was registered on the security cameras. Furthermore, he assured that policemen quickly attended to the incident, with a wait time of no more than two minutes and forty five seconds after the report was received.
