Senator Barbara Boxer Will Retire and Not Seek Reelection in 2016

After serving twenty years in the Senate and over thirty in Politics

CALIFORNIA.- One of California's two representatives in the United States Senate announced today that 2016 will be her last year as a member of Congress.

"I am never going to retire. The work is too important. But I will not be running for the Senate in 2016," said Boxer in the video.

Barbara Boxer and her current Californian Senate partner, the senior Dianne Feinstein, were elected in 1992 as the first women to represent the state in the Upper Chamber.

Her career goes hand in hand with history regarding the progress of women in politics, becoming a public servant during the 80s and 90s when the United States only started to visualize women in important positions throughout all government levels.

She has been a spokesperson for progressivism and liberalism in the Senate, most proud, she says, of her vote against the Iraq War over ten years ago, and a staunch supported o f abortion rights, gun control and environmental protection.

Who will replace her?

For decades, Feinstein as well as Boxer have left California Democrats with little options to go up the political ladder in the state, since both were though as untouchable in any primaries. But with Boxer's retirement (and Feinstein's possible retirement in 2018) the talent pool that the Democrat Party has accumulated over years will have a chance to rise at the federal level.

Among the names being thrown around for Boxer's position are Kamala Harris, California's current State Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and even Facebook's COO, Sheryl Sandberg.

Curiously, she mentions in the video that she will take the opportunity to support Democratic candidates in the state and country, as well as also helping the future presidential Democratic candidate and help them "make history" in 2016. Wonder who could she possibly be talking about?
