Baja California Will Invest More Than $2M USD On Children's Daycare Centers In 2015

The State Government seeks more opportunities for low income populations

MEXICALI.- As part of the State Government Action Plan to implement opportunities for low income population areas, State Governor Francisco "Kiko" Vega de Lamadrid announced today an investment of 34.9 million pesos (2,300,00 USD) to launch a children's daycare center program in 2015, which will benefit thousands of low income single mothers with boys and girls.

Vega de Lamadrid pointed out that this important action has one purpose: Supporting thousands of women who leave their home daily in order to go to work, and with this program they guarantee that their children will be safe and well taken care of. Through Baja California's family welfare agency DIF (after it's Spanish initials), traditionally directed by the governor's spouse, Mrs. Brenda Ruacho de Vega, efforts are mande in order to give better opportunities to this vulnerable sector.

This is why, the General Director of the State's DIF, Héctor Rivera Valenzuela, highlighted the main strategies that will be applied this year under two perspectives:

The first one is for the launch of new spaces for child care; and the second one, would be the support overall actions made for children who require daycare attention.

He also added that in 2014, the state government worked on indentifying the areas and communities where there isn't much child care services or the outcome is was insufficient; as a result, the state government will seek the construction of five daycare centers, the creation of almost three million new spaces and the rehabilitation of sixty two daycares.

Rivera mentioned that this project required an initial funding of 7,300,000 pesos (500,000.00 USD), which has already benefited 1,700 boys and girls from the ages of 1 and 6 years-old, receiving a monthly support of 850 pesos (58 USD), to pay for daycare services.

Lastly, he mentioned that the Governor takes measures to create more resources that can be applied to the daycare centers program, which will allow widening goals to benefit even more children of Baja California, as well as their mothers.

"This year, we're focusing on getting more boys and girls to be benefited, we'll have bigger budgets, which means that we will be able to amplify the benefits that are given out to children and their mothers during this program."
