Baja Governor Meets With Mexico's Anti-Kidnapping Coordinator

The Governor also requested higher resources to fight organized crime

MEXICO CITY.- Baja Governor, Francisco "Kiko" Vega, had a meeting today with Renato Sales Heredia, the National Anti-Kidnapping Coordinator, who is in charge of giving a follow up to policies implemented by the Federal Government in the matter of fighting kidnaps.

Accompanied by the State's Attorney General, Perla Socorro Íbarra Leyva and José María González Martínez, State Assistant Attorney Against Organized Crime, Governor is Francisco Vega, presented to the federal official the progress they had had in Baja California regarding the subject, as well as the results obtained thanks to the coordination between the state and the federation.

"We're trying to strengthen the coordination and communication with all of our authorities, in the different government spheres, like we've been doing with the Army, Mexico's Armed Navy and Federal Police, through monthly inter-institutional meetings that have instated in Baja California for a while now, and which are functioning in a positive way to fight this and other crimes", stated Vega.

On his behalf, National Anti-Kidnapping Coordinator, Renato Salinas Heredia, established the importance of coordination meetings between the Federal and State governments, by strengthening the tactical inter-institutional group and exchanging complementary information that will help fight this crime.

Vega mentioned that in the state they have already identified the primary crimes, the most serious and important is drug dealing, which is why more support was requested regarding the assignment of federal resources for the fight of this subject that is directly related to organized crime, having as characteristic the fact that it gets more serious each time given that Baja California is a border are.

"We are worried about this, and this is why we have implemented several strategies to fight it with all the available resources the state has, however, it's necessary that the Federation contributes with a higher number of federal resources, which is why, I have requested de national coordinator to support us and in return we will offer all the complementary information that the state has to help the fight against crime, as well as having a bigger criminal identification, work that without a doubt will strengthen the coordination between different authorities", concluded Governor Vega de Lamadrid.
