George Lucas Isn't Interested In Science Fiction Anymore

The director believes that Hollywood is making a lot of "circus films"

The famous "Star Wars" creator, director George Lucas, has admitted to have lost interest in science fiction.

"I really don't have an interest in science fiction anymore," said Lucas during an interview with Robert Redford at the Sundance Film Festival. Naturally, the public busted out laughing given the director's film trajectory.

The "Star Wars" director shared his thoughts regarding the "trend" of making films in the United States, saying that many Hollywood movies nowadays, are "circus films."

"Let's see how much blood is spilled. Currently is more and more circus than substance", he explained.

"I'm blamed for it", admitted Lucas, but he thinks that these accusations are unfair. "If you watch 'Star Wars' and really observe what's going on, there is way much more substance than circus."

The interview between Lucas and Redford was mainly focused on their mutual concept regarding the Hollywood machines. Lucas admitted to wanting to be a documentary camera man before making "American Graffiti" in 1973.

"Production studios became something that I had to run from. Studios started to treat directors like plumbers, just a guy you hire to make a film. I didn't want to be part of that. I grew up in an era where 'you didn't thrust anyone over thirty'. I still think that", he mentioned.
