Baja and Mexico's Wine: Beyond the Everyday Experience

As classified by Mexican winemaker Hugo D'Acosta in England

As part of the "Año de México en el Reino Unido" (Mexico's Year in the United Kingdom) event, Mexican and Baja wines took center stage with a guided tasting led by renown Baja winemaker, Hugo D'Acosta.

During this celebration, D'Acosta stated that Mexico's wine has a lot of foreign export potential towards a public who is looking for a new and personal experience, given that Mexican wines have great taste and personalities.

"These are small scale wines that hands on, you need to communicate with. They are for people who dare to take a challenge, and are looking for an experience beyond what they taste day-to-day."

During a panel discussion with Mexican journalists organized by the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR in Spanish), D'Acosta mentioned that the states (outside of Baja California) with the most wine making potential are Coahuila, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and Querétaro due to their water and soil accessibility.

D'Acosta pointed out that Mexican winemakers are interested in the concept where the wine created in Mexico contains the flavors from where it's made, because that will give it strength and a defined personality, but above all, it will be a wine that shows how Mexicans live.
