Tijuana City Official Is Removed From Position After Racist Facebook Comments

She didn't think about the consequences of her post

On Monday, public official Liliana Sevilla left her position as Director of the City's Women Institute (INMUJER in Spanish).

The Department of Communication of the City of Tijuana confirmed her step down due to the controversy created after she posted a meme that red: "What if my place is somewhere in Europe and here I am suffering among natives".

This same department revealed that it was Tijuana's Mayor, Dr. Jorge Astiazarán who requested the official's removal, although during a phone interview with Tijuanapress.com, Liliana Sevilla denied this statement saying that it was her who took the decision of leaving her position as director of INMUJER.

"I decided to step down to give a chance to Dr. Astiazarán to get out of this problem. He has alway been very kind to me and the least that he deserves is that I treat him the same way" said Sevilla.

On Monday night, the former official posted on her Facebook page an interview with a radio station from Tijuana saying that she would be leaving her position. Said interview has been shared by several users of the social network.

"I've already cleared my office, gave my keys to the Secretary of Social Development so they can judge in the way it's appropriate" commented Sevilla Rosas. She also explains that she regrets having shared this polemic comment, highlighting that she isn't a racist person.
