Helicopter Crash Kills French Athletes In Argentina

Two of them were Olympic medallist

WORLD.- The filming of reality show "Dropped", from French Tv network TF1, ended in tragedy after two helicopters crashed in the Argentinian province area of La Rioja; ten people died, among them were three renown athletes, racer Florence Arthaud, Olympic Swimming Champion, Camille Muffat and boxer Alexis Vastine.

The former swimmer, boxer and racer were all part of the reality show, which sought the surviving skills of its participants. The other five deceased, were also French members of the show's team and were identified as Laurent Sbasnik, Lucie Mei-Dalby, Volodia Guinard, Brice Guilbert and Edouard Gilles. Two of the deceased were identified as the Argentinian pilots in charge of flying the helicopters.

The accident took place at Quebrada del Yeso, in the Argentinian province of La Rioja, at 5:00 p.m. on Monday (9:00 p.m. for Spain), and it was then when the two helicopters hired by the tv station collided due to reasons that still remain unknown. "Apparently the helicopters collision when turning. We still don't know why. Weather conditions were good" explained Horacio Alarcón, spokesperson for La Rioja authorities.

Regarding the matter, the President of France, François Hollande, sent out a statement this morning to express his sadness, which at the moment still has no explanation. He sent his condolences to the families of the deceased and announced the mobilization of proper units that will work alongside the Argentinian government to guarantee good communication, as well as any help necessary.
