MEXICO.- Approximately 777,000 readers in Mexico are part of the Zapotec group in the state of Oaxaca and some parts of Veracruz, and fortunately they will benefit from a new educative project that seeks the promotion of native languages with the purpose of strengthening those languages within their communities.

This is a translation project, developed by Eduardo Vicente Jiménez, a 21-year-old student, who his currently studying his 6th semester of Language Teaching at the Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO).

Born in Oaxaca, mother of the Zapotec culture, Jiménez has taken on the task of adapting the story of "Spider Man" from English to Spanish to his mother tongue, on which the Marvel character is known as Ome Bidxiguí and his archenemy, The Green Goblin, Bini'dxi. As you can see in the image below, this is how the new comic strip looks like, having didactic purposes.

One would think that Eduardo Vicente is fan of the comic's story, Stan Lee's universe or at least fan of our "Spidy Friend", however, his real interest in adapting Peter Parker's story, has more to do with the creation of educative material and giving a voice to less visible communities.

"Spider Man is very famous, adults and children know who he is, so the idea of adapting a small story between the superhero and his archenemy, The Green Goblin came to mind. With this, we are looking to promote the usage of the Zapotec language in spaces that until now have been banned and through this, we hope we can reach new generations" explained the Quadratin portal adaptor.

Eduardo Vicente Jiménez added that he fears Marvel's editorial answer, given that he doesn't have the necessary authorizations to modify the original story. Nonetheless, he says his work is with a non-profit purpose but rather a stimuli for thousands of native children and youth.
