In spite of of a collapse in talks between workers and farmers

SAN QUINTIN.- One of the main berry producers and most involved company in the negotiations between workers and farmers in the San Quintin Valley , has announced that they will increase their pay and benefits for its workers.

However, this is not a result from negotiations between 'Alianza de Asociaciones Nacional, Estatal y Municipal para una Justicia Social' and producers, which are mediated by the State Government, this is a direct negotiation between Baja's BerryMex/Driscolls and its workers.

In spite of announcing that they will increase salary and benefits, they did not mention to what extent this would be.

A few days ago, we interviewed Héctor Luján, BerryMex's director who commented that on Tuesday 75% of his work force had returned to their jobs, and it was then when they managed to achieved a direct negotiation with them and not just with the Valley's work representatives.

Here is BerryMex's complete newsletter:

Over the last few days, BerryMex has maintain direct conversations with its workers in order to study they labor needs and tend to them, this being a company commitment that has as purpose a continuous dialogue.

Just as it has been for 15 years, BerryMex, restated its respect for its employees and acknowledged the fundamental work they make towards the harvest of berries each season.

The employees reaction upon this announcement was very gleeful and came with a very positive support. Through this process, BerryMex has shown its commitment, values and disposition to promote a healthy and satisfying work environment."

A few hours ago, El Mexicano journal reported that 'Alianza Municipal, Estatal y Nacional' will no longer consider the State Government as a mediator between the producers and workers negotiations, in the same manner, the producer's representative will no longer attend the board meetings.
