Augmented Reality Will Be Trending By 2020

The augmented/virtual reality industry could be highly increased over the next few years

In spite of the constant efforts to make virtual and augmented reality a trend, such as Oculus, Rift, Magic Leap, HoloLens and Google Glass, these immersing experiences have yet to become a part of our daily lives…however by 2020, they could be. According, to an extensive analysis by Digi-Capital, this refers to an industry that has the potential of exponentially growing in a short amount of time, given the proper conditions, it would transform into a business capable of generating $150,000 dollars per year. From these two technology strands, augmented reality is the one which has more chances of growing.

It is important to remember that, even though virtual reality has been under development for some time now and has the present as backup (with great investments and research on behalf of Facebook, Oculus VR, Valve and HTC), augmented reality has better tools to become a whole product for all human activities. On one side, VR offers an all-involving concept, by immersing us in a virtual world that has no graphic limitations, while the AR experience is conditioned to what exists in the real world, which is why it is capable to "augment" what we see with some utility.

In principle, these technologies do have the same starting point, but different purposes. According to the opinion of several financial analysis firms, augmented reality is the equivalent of smartphones prior to the iPhone era. The only thing that is missing is an Apple product that gives this technology the final push, in order for it to burst into popularity and everyone wants to use one of these visors throughout the whole day. There is an obvious lack of flashy designing, given that Google Glass failed not due to aesthetics, but for lacking genuine value; after all, the promise of a world highly informative through a smart piece of glass, was never fulfilled.
