Today Is International Museum Day! Which One Are You Going To Visit?

You visit Tijuana and San Diego

Every year on May 18th, the International Council of Museums, celebrates International Museum Day. Some museums offer free admission, extended hours and free family activities, as well as concerts and guided tours.

So, if you have some free time this afternoon or a close by, visit you favorite museum and join the fun.

*In the case of Tijuana, there aren't many museum to choose from, nonetheless they have great exhibits.

And if you're not able to visit them today, at least you know what each museum has to offer.

HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF TIJUANA

The purpose of this museum is to contribute to the knowledge and reflection regarding the past, present and future of Tijuana.

This museum has five permanent exhibits: Natural History, Social and Political History, Growth and Urban Development, Cultural History and Economical History.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

WAX MUSEUM

With an 80 piece collection that features Mexico's greatest characters of history, literature, film and art, this museum has 4 themed exhibits: Mexico's Pre-Hispanic Era, Baja California's Missions and Tijuana's History, Legends and History and Mexican Heroes.

Summer schedule: Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Weekends: from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m

Winter schedule: Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekends: from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

San Diego

SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART

The first and biggest art institution in the San Diego county, SDMA provides access to original art work, being one of the main art sources of the city.

Open Sunday until 5:00 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., daily. Closed on Wednesdays.

Every third Tuesday of the month admission is free from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m

With two locations in San Diego, MCASD has a variety of exhibit spaces and community experiences, featuring world renown collections.

This is the first forum dedicated to the exploration and presentation of 21st century art.

MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS

MOPA is located inside beautiful Balboa Park, at the Casa de Balboa building, right beside the Model Railroad Museum and the San Diego History Center.

Open from Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer schedule: Thursdays from 10:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m.

On May 28th, they will be closing at 4:00 p.m

MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Interpret what nature has to offer from a research and educational point of view. This museum teaches about evolution and diversity in South California as well as the Baja peninsula, inspiring respect for nature and the environment.
