Excessive Exposure To Mobile Devices May Cause Blindness

Take necessary precautions in order to protect you retina

How many hours a day do you spend on your electronic devices? How much damage can this 'daily tools' cause you?

The time we spent in front of a screen, whether is our computer or phone, can slowly but surely damage you sight. This is because the ultraviolet light released from these devices, kills your retina cells.

When can notice that our vision has been compromised when we loose the ability to perceive details, this is caused by aging or in the case of younger generations due to the high exposure to light. While it's true that we should protect our eyes from the sun and radiation, having certain precautions while using our phones, computers and/or tablets is also advised.

In Mexico, one individual spends around 160 minutes on a smartphone, 103 minutes on a computer and half an hour on a tablet. Surprising isn't it? This statistics talk about nearly 400 minutes where our eyes are receiving ultraviolet rays as well as radiation, and not necessarily because we have been outside.

Optometrist, Sandra Rábago González recommends using solar lenses and eating foods rich in Vitamin A such as carrots and broccoli, in order to strengthen our retina.
