#CharlieCharlieChallenge: Ouija Knockoff The Lastest Trend On Social Media

This homemade board will supposedly make you have a paranormal experience

UNITED STATES.- When it comes to Internet trends, people (especially teenagers) do not waste time, going out of their ways to complete the most crazy challenges. The latest social media trend revolves around supposedly summoning a ghost named 'Charlie' with the help of two pencils and a piece of paper. Known as #CharlieCharlieChallengue on Twitter, it's gained a lot of popularity.

The game consists on making a cross with pencils, with the words 'Yes' and 'No' written on each corner. Once everything is placed, the participants must say:

[p]"Are you there Charlie?",

[p]then wait to see if one of the pencils moves as a response. The pencils shouldn't be touched, in fact, it's recommend not to.

According to the rules, not every participant is able to 'summon' Charlie. Anyone interested in playing should be educated on paranormal subjects, and once you're finished playing in order to stop the game you must ask: "Charlie, Charlie can we stop?".

So now you know what this new social media trend is about, but do you know the real story behind it? Although it's hard to pin point an exact origin for this 'demon', Charlie has a long history inside Spanish speaking schoolyards, as traditionally it was played with colored pencil and some way along the road it got switched to simple pencil and was set along a homemade 'ouija board' (thanks Internet!)

The reason this game has gained back its popularity seems to be connected to the news that spread out in the Dominican province of Hato Mayor regarding a 'Satanic' game that took over local schools. After that, social media just worked its little wand of pop culture and everyone started to try it.

Whether people believe or not, one thing is for sure, you may not be able to summon a demon but find something people will follow and it will haunt you forever.
