Paris ends relationships with "Love Locks"

The popular tourist and local tradition ends forever…

PARIS.- The city of love, Paris, broke many hearts this Monday by removing what was once a commitment and now turning it into a lost hope for lovers around the world who chained "love locks" to one of the city's bridge.

For years, hopeless romantics from around the world travel to Paris' Pont des Arts Bridge to attach locks with sentimental messages and later tossing the key to the River Seine so that nothing could ever break the bond.

Unfortunately, that everlasting bond won't be so permanent after all.

This "cute" tradition was estimated to have over one million locks, so French officials began removing them Monday morning after the railings became "weakened under the weight," according to the city's council, which posed a risk to the people who crossed the bridge.

Signs were put on the bridge to remind the tourists that it will be closed for a week while the locks are removed. Protective glass panels will be put across the bridge as the final installation.

Nevertheless, there is still hope for the passionate lovers; the padlocks will not be thrown away but there are still the talks about what the city will do to them. The locks were removed but the love will always be remembered.
