All My Friends Fest 2015: Baja's Best Summer Beach Fest

Who the hell are these bands and why should I go?

Music festivals and the festival experience alone have become bland, predictable and down right boring. Festival goers are increasingly broish in their nature and of course, rich, because unless you live in Southern California, no one else can afford to go to these things. Festivals are becoming a drag. They seem pretty basic. Maybe, just maybe, I'm too jaded, been to too many damn festivals and you should not listen to me, so stop reading and do whatever you want to do. That seems just about right. The list of reasons why not to go to a music festival could easily go on (but we wont do that).

All My Friends Fest, is however, a little different. This is a small, boutique festival done in the spirit of DIY. It started as something very small enhanced by local promoters and has grown at the right pace, throughout the years. Sure, you might not know any of the bands playing, but does that matter? One thing is for certain, some of these bands have already either played at Coachella or will play it soon, so you can go ahead and tell your friends you saw them before… etc. etc. etc. Just be cool about it.

Is going to discover new music on a beautiful beach as bad as paying one thousand dollars to go see Drake and AC DC in the hot ass dessert in the midst of a Bro and Basic invasion? The answer to that may be a personal one. Guilty pleasures aside, everyone likes to spend less to achieve this "magical" festival experience. AMF is done right, from food to music and location, everything is perfect. If you are a Southern California festival goer, the magic is right here in our own backyard and there is no reason you should not check out this festival. After all, it's different, and you want to be different don't you?

Here are some reasons why you should attend this festival:

1. THE MUSIC, DUH?

The festival has a ton of bands playing. And although the following bands are by personal choice, you can judge for yourself.

King Tuff from LA

From Burger Records and SUB POP (yes, the Nirvana Sub Pop) Poppy stoner garage sound.

Siete Catorce from Mexicali

Extraordinary Mexican producer creating Dance Music that is wavy and a wide array of genres.

La Femme from France

Psycho-Tropical fun dance party. Perfect for beach weather and already one of TJ faves, should be quite a show.

TekLife from the USA + Dj Nombre Apellido from TJ

Taking place on Friday June 19, you'd need to RSVP, the Teklife Crew (RIP RASHAD) will be laying down their step, jaggedy trippy dance hip hop sets while Tijuana Macuano will us a digital taste of dance life.

San Pedro el Cortez from Tijuana

Grimey, dirty, trashy and powerfully sexy. Garage rockers representing Tijuana, sometimes they get naked on stage. Enough said.

Kingdom from LA

Soulful and edgy dance music. Remixes, Kelela etc etc etc, don't miss.

FAX de Mexicali

Incredible producer. Static backed and well respected, driving guitar riffs with melodic dance music backgrounds and at times quite simple, engaging.

2.FOOD/COCINA CENTRAL

It's Baja. Please, don't make me tell you about the food here, it's getting pretty popular and well renowned for it's yumminess. AMF is different and unique because it's the first music festival in Mexico to incorporate the cool culinary scene from it's region. Maybe, SWSX has been doing this for a while, but AMF has wine pairings, a chef's duel, taking place on Friday night as well as some events on Saturday during the festivities. With some of the the very best food trucks from the region,we ain't talking your run of the mill falafel truck, we are talking Kokopelli, wine pairings... I think I should stop there! /p]

More info about the food there, check out the site fro Cocina Central.

3. BEAUTIFUL BEACH LOCATION

With a stage on a beachside cliff and and stage right on the beach, the view it's breathtaking. Watch the sun go down into the Pacific while doing some wine pairings and listening to music, like a big timer for a quarter of the cost. Does Coachella have a beachside cliff? You can swim in the ocean, the beauty of no liability Mexico awaits you (lifeguards on duty as well). Also, worth mentioning last year the party ended at midnight or so, this year the party goes until the break of dawn! There is no way to compare this festival to anything in the region, you just have to judge it for yourself.

There is a package deal. Hotel, roundtrip, transportation from LA and SD + Tickets over at www.algobien.com. You can still wear flowers in your hair, don't be basic, go to the festival.
