Tecate Opens "Puerta Norte" For 2015

Wine tasting season has begun in the city

TECATE.- On Saturday June 13th, Ruta del Vino's 'Puerta Norte' officially started its wine tasting season, as part of the efforts of the City of Tecate and the Authority of Economical Development and Tourism to promote tourism in the city.

This event took place at Veramendi's wine producer, located on Tecate-Mexicali's 117.5 km scenic road. Here, Ruta del Vino's Puerta Norte Winemakers Association, talked about this 2015 Tasting Season project, which will conclude during the month of September, offering tourists the opportunity of tasting wine and getting to know other wine producers.

"Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. doors will be open in order to taste wines, products of the effort of our people, most importantly you will taste the flavors of this magical and special town, which brings fine, special and delicate wine," commented, Roberto Valdez, President of the Winemakers Association.

Furthermore he added that, "we have chosen Puerta Norte as part of our name, given that we're the current entrance to Ruta del Vino, extending to Valle de Santo Tomás, South of Ensenada, we can be sure that we will be a very important part for this area that has positioned our state as a touristic attraction on a national and international level."

Héctor Esparza Murua, director of the Authority of Economical Development and Tourism officially launched the campaign of 'Rutas Mágicas' during the event, presenting a 3 minute promo video which features 3 routes that are being documented, Ruta del Vino's Puerta Norte, Ruta Histórica and Ruta de la Montaña.

This project comes as part of the efforts for touristically promoting Tecate, further on, some of the characteristics, destinations, culture, cuisine, and all the beautiful things this Magical Town has to offer through its routes will be revealed.

On his behalf, Mayor César Moreno congratulated the wine producers who represent the association and invited them to continue creating these types of projects which will directly benefit Tecate and Baja's tourism. "We are very happy to have achieve these project hand in hand with the three levels of government, we are going to continue providing the facilities in order for them to keep blooming, because Tecate has great potential and we have to write it and say it," he mentioned.

"I'm very excited to see this project become a reality, truthfully we have put in our best best efforts in order to make Tecate a different city that what it was when this administration started, we are half way there and we've achieved a lot, but there is still plenty to do, so please don't leave us hanging, more society and less government is the key to Tecate's progress," concluded Mayor Moreno.

Afterwards, the attendees were able to taste several wines and artisanal products from the wine producers of the Winemakers Association of Puerta Norte, which are as follows:

    Viñedos Tanama, located on Tecatte-Ensenada's 7.5 km scenic road, on Rancho Guadalupe, Tanama has Californian mission styled facilities and a wide selection of red wines as well as their creation of mission blanc.
    Rancho San Lorenzo is located on km 9th of Valle Tanamá, a water complex which makes its wine with original stocks of mission grapes and Peruvian roses.
    Rancho Tecate, located on km 10th of Valle Tanamá is a resort, were wines such as Vitis and Atmosfera 16 are elaborated with cabernet sauvignon, merlon and nebiolo grapes from their youngest vineyards.
    Vinos Ulloa, located on Tecate-Ensenada's 11km scenic road, has its own vineyard and abode facilities. With red monovarietal wines and diverse mixture, its vineyards are mature and with lots of variety.
    Viñas San Valentin, located on Mexicali-Tecate's 117 km, this ranch has a wine cellar and country house with a wide selection of red monovarietal wines.
    Wine Producer Veramendi, located on the 117.5 of Valle de San Valentin on Rancho La Cienega, this wine producer has country facilities and boutique vineyards.
    Viñedos Rosa de Catilla,located on Tecate-Mexicali's 118km on Rancho Rosa de Castilla, they have a wide variety of red wines along with a wine cellar and country club are for tasting.
