TIJUANA.- After a retirement home in Mexicali went up in flames, leaving 16 seniors deceased, 5 injured, and the rest taken into temporary shelter, today in Tijuana, several safety inspections will take place in order to supervise the security conditions of the retirement homes of the city, making sure that they meet the permits required by the authorities and are able to operate without any mishaps.

During this inspections led by the City's Secretary of Social Development (SEDESOM), the Fire, Inspection and Verification Deparments, 11 establishments were reviewed in order to confirm that they in fact have the proper security conditions to take on any possible contingency.

As part of the work, evacuation routes were also inspected as well as the functioning of lights and emergency routes; likewise staff was trained to make them capable of assisting inside these facilities.

Tijuana's Government will continue to have these safety inspections in a permanent matter, guaranteeing people's personal safety, while restating their commitment to keeping the lives of seniors.
