Up To 12,000 People Expected for Baja's "Ruta Del Vino Bicycle Ride & Wine Festival"

SECTURE invites all local and foreign citizens to participate in the event

TIJUANA.- The Secretary of Tourism announced that Valle de Guadalupe will be host to the first ever "Ruta del Vino Bicycle Ride & Wine Festival", part of a series of events promoting the many sides of Baja tourist spots.

During a press conference, Tourism Marketing Director, Edrick Reyes Melendez, pointed out that the agency promotes events that widen the attractive variety that the area has to offer for local, national and international visitors.

In the same manner, he mentioned that the first edition of this bike ride, aside from projecting the wine industry's potential, will also provide a culinary experience as well as outdoor activities like no other in the country.

"These activities will allow us to create an even bigger vision of what Ruta del Vino (wine route) is, demonstrating that it is not only in the month of August when we have our harvest festival, but year round that our different events help us consolidate our tourist influx."

On her behalf, Director of Ruta Del Vino Bicycle Ride & Wine Festival, Ana María Castro Duarte, mentioned that the event will take place on July 18th with a start and finish line at El Porvenir area, starting at 10:00 a.m. The tour is 60 kilometers long and will provide its participants the chance to bike through some of Valle de Guadalupe's wine producers. The tour goes from amateurs to Elite categories.

She also pointed out that the assistance of cyclist teams from Distrito Federal, Quintana Roo, Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Sonora have been confirmed, this sums up a 70% attendance of Mexican cyclist from the country and the United States, a total influx of 12,000 people including companions.

Eight ambulances, two first response units, two motorcycles and one first response vehicle be available at the finish line as well as along the tour, in case of any emergency. Federal police will control traffic.

This event will also promote the 'One Way Ride' program, where they invite participants to donate their bikes, which will be handed out in institutions such as the Hospital de las Californias, DIF Municipal, Inmudere, Caminando con Sentido, Red Cross, Ciclistas de San Quintin, among other.
