Mexico: Do They Have The Police They Deserve?

ONG reported that Mexican police corps are been exploited

MEXICO.- Complaints regarding corruption and a lack of initiative on behalf of police corps in Mexico isn't something that comes as recent news. However, what only a handful of people report is the exploitation situation under which Mexican police men live by working 24 hours shifts and being underpaid, according to a non-governmental organization named "Causa en Común"

Quoting data from ONG, they point out that police meant work a lot and gain very little for what they do. Furthermore, they aren't trained with the same rigor their profession demands, which is why they don't have the necessary tools to perform as one would like to.

President of "Causa en Común", María Elena Morera, mentioned that the root of the problem could be found inside state governments, who according to her judgement, "wrongly invest money destined to police training."

This way, responsibility falls on the lack of will to improve work conditions and as proof of this disinterested situation, the entire country is put on spotlight, given that only Guanajato, Nuevo Leon, Queretaro and Mexico City have a development system for police men.

"We have the police we deserve", explained Morera during a conference where a research regarding "how much it needs to be done to homologate state police men and ensure that we are on the right track to dignifying and having they security professional we need" was revealed.
