Wikipedia To Add Mayan And Mixtec Editions

Currently there are over 10 thousand articles in Nahuatl

WORLD.- With an estimated rate of 45 million visits per month, Mexico is the largest Spanish speaking country that uses Wikipedia as a digital encyclopedia, acknowledging this, the site's representatives have directed their efforts to include country's native languages among their list of available editions

The site already had an edition in Nahuatl the most spoken indigenous language in the country, which currently has over 10 thousand articles written on site, however, it has been contemplated to translate several thousand articles into Mayan and Mixtec. Said project will start with "the mission of giving access to knowledge to people" regardless of their native tongue, as it was mentioned by president of the Mexican Wkimedia Association, Ivan Martinez.

Furthermore, Geek reported that Wkimedia established an alliance with Conaculta to include historic content, as well as art an Mexican culture among the pages of Wkipedia, even though in the end, this is the work of independent individual and onto so much of Wikipedia itself.

For example, the Mayan version is being translated by Yucatecan communities, while the Mixtec is being developed in Oaxaca.
