First Gay Candidate Will Seek Tijuana's Municipality

Fidel Santiesteban annouced his candidature

TIJUANA.-For the first time in history, an openly gay candidate will seek the city's municipality during Baja's next elections.

We are talking about Fidel Santiesteban, an activist born in Navolato, Sinaloa, whose popularity is owed to the role he has played in favor of sexual diversity.

He admits that he will foresee the rights of the LGBT community and according to Diario Tijuana, he isn't afraid that this nor his sexual orientation will affect his chances of winning. On the contraire, Santiesteban says he feels confident and supported, given that he already has 30% of the pink votes.

Among social media, friends and family have sent words of encouragement showing that they support his decision of participating in politics. If he is to run officially, he would be the first candidate to uncover himself towards the 2016 elections.
