Tijuana Loves Facebook

Here are some of the habits that stand out the most from this blue mogul

For eContact, Tijuana is a very important city. Not just because we were founded here, but because our creative offices are located in the city and so we have some pretty interesting data from it in our company.

The city grows on a daily basis, and according to experts, it grows at a pace of a few blocks every 24 hours, exceeding 2,000,000 residents in the Tijuana Metro Area and a important population flow (immigrants form other Mexican states).

Being a city bordering the United States' richest sate, Tijuana does have some ups and downs. One of its advantages is its access to technology, with more competitive prices that some of the states in southern Mexico. It's not unlikely to see all types of socio-economic types wrapped around a smartphone in every bus stop, line at the bank, at the movies, in school, etc.

Access to internet per capita in Tijuana is more elevated than the national average, reaching 48% according to the Mexican Association of Internet (Asociacion Mexicana de Internet in Spanish), although it may be higher given that there are thousands of people that don't have internet at home but do in their smartphones.

Thanks to a digital marketing agency specialized in social media we have studied the quantity of Facebook users, their profiles and main activities, here are the results:

There are over 1 million active accounts A user is online an average of 2 hours on a daily basis Prime hours of activity are between 8am and 10am, 1pm and 3pm and finally, 7pm and 10 pm. 51% are women and 49% are men The preferred content is video 72% is online via smartphone The age average is among 25 Newest users have an average age of 37

This data reveals that Facebook is the social media preferred by the people of Tijuana, compared to Twitter that only has +/- 250,000 users in Baja.

The potential of a brand connecting with a market in Facebook is huge, it's just matter of creating the appropriate content with a smart digital strategy.
