300,000 People Visited Baja Duirng Labor Day

The best outcome for the region since 2007

TIJUANA.- The State Secretary of Tourism (SECTURE) informed that over 300,000 people, with an average of expenditure of $105 dlls, visited the region in order to celebrate Labor Day.

Regarding this, head of SECTURE, Oscar Jesus Escobedo Carignan, detailed that this weekend registered they biggest hotel vacancy on a Labor Day weekend since 2007, with an increase of 7% statewide compared to 2014.

"Beach destinations had an average of 80% during the nights of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while border cities had up to 79%; registering an increase compared to last year where we 9% and 14%, respectively."

He pointed out that Tijuana reported an 88% of non vacancy, Rosarito 85%, Ensenada 84%, Mexicali and Tecate 63%, San Felipe 58% and San Quintin 40%.

"To set an example, Tijuana which traditionally was the most visited destination, during this season and year for that matter, was completely full on Saturday, as well as Rosarito and Ensenada; San Felipe was almost at 90%, which shows the continuous and ascending trend in visitor's influx, " he added.

Escobedo Carignan mentioned the dependencies he is in charge of tended to at least 700 people, mainly visitors from Baja California Sur, through their mobile modules of information and tourist assistance line 078, which is available 24/7.

"There was movement of 162,000 vehicles throughout the whole state during the weekend, registering an increase of 48% compared to last year; Ensenada's highway reopening had a lot to do with this increase, although toll booths registered more cars than last year."
