Pope Francis Arrives In The United States

He was welcomed by President Barack Obama

WASHINGTON.- Pope Francis arrived in the United States after he concluded his four day visit in Cuba. These trips represent a high level of symbolism due to the role the Pope has played to reconcile both countries.

The Pope's private jet landed on Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, where he was welcomed by President Barack Obama. This is a very unusual act, given that the president usually greets visitor at the White House.

This is the first time the Pope visits the United States, staying for 6 days and visiting 3 cities. Further on, he will meet with Obama and give a speech in Congress and at UN.

The Pontiff was also welcomed by the US First Lady, Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia, as a gesture of "respect and admiration", not just on behalf of the Obamas but of the whole country. As it was mentioned during a press conference by the White House's spokesperson, Josh Earnest.
