We all know that a social media crisis can't be underestimated nowadays, in any organization, but it's even more interesting when the controversy's origins is a simple job ad. This was the case with a Facebook post by the Tijuana soccer team, Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente, which announced a vacant slot for Chief of Media Relationships, along with the profile they were looking for in their new media chief.
The listed qualifications were nothing out of the ordinary when you think about Mexican recruitment standards: age, studies, experience. But the requirement that angered hundreds (including a SanDiegoRed collaborator) was the one that limited the position to a male.

Not only were there responses that condemned their biased criteria, but there were also those comments that reflected utter perplexity against the "feminist racket" bubbling up against the job ad. The debate was heated on both sides, and in the end a new flyer was posted on the team's Facebook, where the required sex was now "indifferent".

Sources from the team highlighted that there are more women than men in their Communication and Marketing area, but the damage was done. At least we like to think that incidents like this one can shape a constructive dialogue that sheds the nonchalant approach to reductive judgments based on banal customs, in Mexico or any other part of the world. Because really, how many of us enjoy living in a society where machismo feeds conformity and caveman snubs?
