Rules For Secret Sources In The U.S. To Be Stricter

The country is seeking to control criminal activities from their sources

With the purpose of avoiding criminal activities, the United States has reinforced their policies and practices regarding the use of confidential informants who come in contact or are part of criminal organizations.

The US Congress underwent a year long investigation, which concluded on the rectification of rules that involved the use of so called "rats" or confidential sources, so there is no oversight of illegal activities.

According to "El Universal", during two [Mexican presidential terms] American authorities would do business with members of cartels in order to obtain information regarding their rivaling groups. Things got out of hand an violence increased in the country due to the criminal activities allowed by said agents. Mexico wasn't aware of said agreements between officials and cartel members.

This is just one of the registered cases of employment abuse and control carelessness regarding the use of protected witnesses outside the US.

Currently, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is updating their Informant Manual, which hasn't been modified since 2012. On their behalf, the DEA and Marshall's Service are in process of reestablishing their policies. This measure is in order for the informants to serve with the sole purpose of solving and preventing crimes and controlling illegal activities while collaborating with authorities.
