Organized by the State's Secretary of Tourism.

TIJUANA. - The State's Secretary of Tourism (SECTURE in Spanish) opened this Thursday the "Innovation & Sustainable Use of Cultural Heritage of Tourist Destinations" workshop.

During the opening of the works being done at Tijuana's Cultural Center (CECUT in Spanish), the Deputy Secretary of Tourism, Ives Gabriel Lelevier Ramos, said that these actions are part of a series of workshops that the Federal Secretary of Tourism is promoting, the goal of these are to inform about a study that detected new areas of opportunities to promote this sector, the study was carried out by the Anáhuac University and the Secretary's goal is to showcase it in all the regions of the country.

He mentioned that the state of Baja California will be the last stop for these workshops in which tourism service providers and culture promoters from all five state's municipalities as well as nearby states Sonora, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua and Sinaloa.

"In recent years, cultural tourism has been a motive for foreigners to visit the country; the study will show new parameters that should be taken advantage of by each municipality to improve their cultural offer in order to bring more tourists, said Lelevier.

Lelevier Ramos said that in Baja California's case, there's been an increase of influx from the country's inner states and from other countries that wish to know what the different regions have to offer, including the culinary, wine and craft beer movement, "this study will help us to capitalize on these new ways of promoting our culture."

The workshops will take place on October 29th and 30th, with the participation of at least 35 representatives of cultural institutions like the ICBC, CEART, Tijuana's History Society and IMAC, as well as other cultural/tourism establishments like the Vine and Wine Museum, the Riviera Cultural Center, the El Trompo Interactive Museum and the Caracol Museum, Entijuanarte, Baja Wine Tours, Cucapá Tours and Tijuana's Tourism and Conventions Committee, among others.

The coordinator of Anáhuac University's Cultural Tourism Major, René Rivera, assured that the main tourist attractions of the country that are being promoted are beach activities, but there are other sectors that that have had investment, a good example is cultural tourism, which was the reason for updating a study to take advantage of this tourism sector.

He also said that the methodology was divided in six steps, starting from having the cultural destination identify it's cultural offer, come up with ways to take advantage of it, generate ideas, develop operation procedures, including the promotion and operation of the cultural tourism. Rivera also added that the main objective is to actually put the results in practice by the appropriate people in each destination.

He also emphasized on the importance of the cultural sector working along with the tourism one, which is why seven different workshops where developed in different regions of Mexico in which representatives of both sectors where called upon and worked together on strengthening said sectors.
