34 Immigrants Rescued In Chiapas, Mexico

They had asphyxiation and dehydration symptoms.

Agents from Mexico's Criminal Investigation Agency (Agencia de Investigación Criminal [AIC] in Spanish) rescued 34 undocumented immigrants in the state of Chiapas, on their way north from Central American countries.

According to reports from the Office of the General Prosecutor (Procuraduría General de la República [PGR] in Spanish), a van was driving down the Juárez- Pichucalco highway when it was stopped by the agents, where they found the immigrants piled up on the back of the vehicle.Among them were 15 year olds along with other people that came from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The group had been locked up in the vehicle’s cabin for a long time, since they symptoms of asphyxiation and dehydration.

Mexican authorities stopped the driver and passenger of the vehicle, who were taken into custody to the Federal Public Prosecutor office for breaking federal Immigration law. While the 34 undocumented people were sent to the National Institute of Migration (Instituto Nacional de Migración [INM] in Spanish).
