Tourism in Baja Will Include an Artificial Reef, the Baja 1000 and a Golf Tournament

Baja California's Secretary of Tourism will push for three different types of tourism.

TIJUANA. - As part of the sport, adventure and ecological tourism activities calendar, this month the state's Secretary of Tourism (SECTURE in Spanish) will push for three important events like the off-road Baja 1000 race, the sinking of the ship Uribe 121 for the creating of the first artificial reef in Rosarito Beach and the international golf tournament "México Golf Tour" which will take place in Baja California for the first time.

The head of the SECTURE, Óscar Jesús Escobedo Carignan, said that the three events will take place on November 18th to the 22nd in the Pacific coast area.

"The Baja 1000 is without a doubt the most representative event of our state, in which we are waiting on participants from at least 300 teams from 20 countries and we are expecting for the Ensenada hotels to be at full capacity", said Escobedo.

He also said that Rosarito Beach will have a high occupancy hotel rate this weekend due to the sinking of the Uribe 121 ship, which will bring visitors and regional, national and international media outlets.

"It's a historic event in Baja California, in which we are providing a better tourism offer to potential visitors, since just on our northern neighboring state, there are more than 200 thousand divers that can come and check out the artificial reef in Rosarito as an recreation option, there will also be a scientific investigation center on marine life", he mentioned.

Escobedo Carignan added that for the first time the international tournament "México Golf Tour" will take place in Baja California, which will have the participation of professional golfers hailing from Mexico, the United States and Latin America.

"During the tournament, a reality show where the tournament players will participate, the reality show will be televised all around the US by Univisión, on Mexico by Televisa Deportes and in Latin America by Golf TV. This will put the state on an even bigger spotlight as a destination where these types of activities can be hosted with first-rate facilities and extraordinary complementary services", he said.

He also detailed that in 2016, the office that he currently holds will seek the consolidation of Baja California as one of the most important destinations for these types of alternative tourism activities through the "Adventure Week" program.

"This is one of the most important events in this sector; it consists of a tour with international tourism operators, consumers and specialized media outlets, with the goal of highlighting this tourist destination and to create tourist packages where you can come and swim with great white sharks and whale sharks, as well as tours to the Wine Route and whale watching activities.", he noted.

He also said that the State Government's Secretary of Tourism will work hand in hand will the tourism providers in order to design and implement strategies that are effective and allow a more efficient use of resources.
