Tijuana Airport Cross Border Bridge to Open in December

The opening date is still pending.

The Tijuana International Airport director, Guillermo Villalba, announced that the Cross Border Xpress pedestrian sky bridge, which links the U.S. with the Tijuana airport, will begin operations on December of this year.

"We will have the bridge ready starting December 1st, the inauguration is something that corresponds to the federal government, remember that this is a federal government project." explained Villalba to Uniradio.

This bridge will be one-of-a-kind and there will be a fee charged for its use, the price hasn't been defined yet and it'll be exclusive to air travelers only. According to surveys, at least 50% of the people who arrive at the airport, are headed to San Diego.

The operation of this new binational bridge is considering the arrival of new companies that will generate jobs, more competitiveness and putting the city on the international spotlight, factors that the secretary of Economic Development of Tijuana, Xavier Peniche, is considering.

The opening ceremony is expected to have the presence of both nations' presidents or at least that's what the organizers are hoping for.

While the official inauguration date is being confirmed, the binational bridge has already been set up with a security operation on both sides of the border.
