Mexicans Living Abroad To Get New Voting ID For National Elections

This is the new INE voting card.

Finally, it'll be possible for all Mexicans residing in other countries to participate in the federal elections without coming to Mexico. This is the result of a new voting card model approved by the National Electoral Institute (Instituto Nacional Electoral [INE]), which will have the person's information in Spanish and English and multiple security measures that will prevent it from being forged.

This new electoral ID will include the statement desde el extranjero, or "from abroad", as well as all of the basic information in Spanish and English. Its production will start in 2016, so that everyone can vote on the 2018 federal elections.

The design will pretty much stay the same as the one used in Mexico and it'll also ease with the bureaucratic paperwork in Mexican embassies and consulates that are located in different countries.

Every Mexican that resides abroad and wishes to vote in the future will have to apply for their special voting card in the embassy or consulate of their country of residence.
