Baja 1000 and Mexico Golf Tour Were a Great Success!

Baja's tourism was at an all-time high thanks to the 48th edition of the Baja 1000.

The 48th edition of SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race and the international golf tournament "México Golf Tour" were a total success, with the goal of consolidating sport and adventure tourism activities in Baja California.

In this regard, the head of the Secretary of Tourism (Secretaría de Turismo del Estado [SECTURE] in Spanish), Óscar Jesús Escobedo Carignan, detailed that the city of Ensenada was completely filled with tourists during the weekend, which means an important economic impact for all tourist providers of this port city.

Throughout Sunday morning, the state's tourism official attended the Baja 1000 award ceremony, where Rob MacCachren of Las Vegas, Nevada won first place, Carlos Apdaly López of Tecate, Baja California won second place and Eduardo Laguna of Mexicali third place.

"According to a preliminary survey taken by the Secretary of Tourism, close to 20% of the attendees were foreigners, mainly from California, Arizona and Nevada, staying approximately 2-4 nights and spending around 100 to 200 dollars per person each day.", said Escobedo.

He added that close to 80% of the attendees were male, 39% were 37-49 years old, followed by 29% of the 25-36 age group. The level of education was 35% with a college degree and 44% with a high school diploma.

"We've seen great loyalty from our attendees, close to 62% assure us that they go to every SCORE race in Baja California and 80% graded this year's event organization as very good. This event is giving us international recognition to a level Baja California has never had. This is a new market that we've been seeking, we have what it takes to attract these kinds of international grand events", he said.

Also, there was a reality show filmed during the weekend, produced by Alazraki Productions, known for producing films like "Nosotros los Nobles" and the TV series "Club de Cuervos" as well as more than 100 national and international media outlets covering both events. Something that will help position the region as an international sport and adventure tourist destination.
