Former president Fox thinks marijuana will be legal in Mexico within 2 years

He thinks legalization is the solution to the violence the country has endured.

Mexico's former president Vicente Fox thinks that marijuana will be legalized within 2 years in the country he used to run.

During a visit to the twentieth edition of the "Expo Agroalimentaria", where farming technologies, seed and fertilizer improvements are showcased, the former head of state said he hopes to be able to hold a marijuana expo in Mexico soon.

The Expo Agroalimentaria started in the state of Guanajuato when Fox was governor there.

"We are hoping that marijuana cultivation will be legal within 24 months, it will happen in time, we just have to wait, there's no going back, soon the country will have it legalized and we'll start seeing things like this (the expo), because it'll be another crop just like the others once it's legal", he said.

He assured that legalization is the only way to end the violence that has shaken the country in recent years.

"It's an alternative solution to violence, to the financing, to information, education, and prevention (sic), because governments will get a big part of what cartels and capos are getting right now. I'm hoping it becomes a business just like any other, another crop, just like in the states of Washington, Colorado, California and many others", he added.

Fox attended the expo with wife Marta Sahagún.
