Creta Got a Visit from Our Degustador Anónimo

One of the many options at Telefónica Gastro Park.

After our first restaurant review, many readers may be wondering "Well, what DOES the Degustador Anónimo like?"

What our "Degustador Anónimo" likes making good eating available to everybody. The ritual of sitting down to enjoy both our dish and the company we keep, is something that is done all around the world while the food itself is what connects man and earth. This week, we checked out a food truck that is doing just that, an intimate connection between the cook and the food, which in turn is transferred to the customer and our diner.

We are talking about Creta, a food truck located at Telefónica Gastro Park on Ocampo Avenue, between Agua Caliente Boulevard and 11th street. Telefónica's concept isn't actually groundbreaking. There are different food trucks that range from Japanese food to Baja-style seafood and everything in between.

There are picnic tables all over the place, some of them under the shade of a tree, which makes it, without a doubt, kind of a homely

atmosphere.

For our Creta experience, we ordered three dishes: a ribeye beef steak, a pork ribeye and the catch of the day. All of which were brought over to our table by the chef himself, explaining every dish in detail. At first we thought the chef already knew what we were there for, but that suspicion quelled once we saw the chef being just as detailed with the other patrons there.

When it comes to entrées, the place doesn't have much to offer, but that's compensated by the side dishes that come included with the dish you order. This sat well with us since the main dish experience was more than enough.

Both rib eyes were juicy, with a crusty seasoning that kept the meat's flowing juices in place, especially the pork one, which is not an easy task. The beef cut was cooked to perfection, keeping a pinkish hue all along the cut.

The pork had a side dish, a creamy risotto with vegetables, which the chef explained, were locally grown in gardens, marinated with balsamic vinegar and homemade pesto that went perfectly well when cutting through the greasy pork meat. The rib eye beef steak came with its classic potato and roasted vegetables that paired excellently, although somewhat traditional.

The catch of the day was superb. The fish filet had an exquisite trademark to it, and didn't dry it too much. But the one who stole the show was the side dish. A tomato salad that came with as much cherry tomatoes as persimmon, a fruit that is rarely used in Mexico.

To finish our meal, we ordered a cheese with Nutella dessert from a nearby place there, pretty tasty, making the most of the outdoor space that we were at, which gives you the freedom to pick-and-choose from a variety of places of your liking.

A courteous and friendly service, a homely environment and incredible food quality without being pretentious, is what makes of this place a must for every foodie in the city. And if this still doesn't convince you, then I think the prices will certainly will, because on this outing, three people ate deliciously for less than $30 bucks. It's a must-have experience!
