Best of Baja 2015 | Jacu Wins Best Coffee Shop

Still comes out on top even with overwhelming competition in the city.

TIJUANA. - "La Cacho" (which is actually three different neighborhoods), is on its way to become the coffee shop district of the city.

With more coffee shops "per block" than any other neighborhood in the city of Tijuana, it's hard to make yourself noticeable among all the different options. However, just a few steps away from where most of La Cacho coffee shops are, on Fresnillo street, you'll find the winner of our 2015 Best Coffee Shop category: Jacu.

Coffee is as much of a necessity as a luxury for most. There's nothing better than a good espresso to put a smile of your face and push productivity to its limits, of course there's some of us who are barely productive, even after good cup of joe, and on the evenings, there's nothing better than catching up with friends while sipping on a good, warm brew. The guys at Jacu make both of these a pleasant experience, with a quick but attentive service, who provide a tailor-made drink with a high-efficiency level but also, (in their Cacho shop), a pretty cozy atmosphere.

It's exactly that type of atmosphere, which borders between a professional and bohemian setting and makes this place stand out from all the other different options. It's a comfortable place to sit down and talk, but still a perfect place for a business meeting.

The quality of their drinks is excellent. They offer coffee beans from different coffee-producing countries, like Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and others, as well as different Mexican regions like Oaxaca, Chiapas, etc. For those real coffee aficionados, they also have different infusion methods that go further than just your typical espresso machine, like French press, siphon or vacuum coffee maker, cone and Chemex. For those who are in search of something out of the ordinary, they have their "cold brews", which have been trend-setting the drink around town and Jacu was one of the first ones to introduce it to the locals. They also have a great selection of seasonal beverages. Over the summer, they sell some delicious coffee-based sodas and in the winter, their mint, nutmeg and other types of seasonal infusions.

They also have baked goods that go perfectly with your drink, like cookies and pastries, which I don't know if they make them there but I haven't seen them in other places. Chocolate chip cookies with bacon, small guava pies, perfectly-made to complement the high-quality level of coffee that's brewed there.

Jacu is a simple, cozy place with great, attentive service, so as winners of a Best of Baja 2015 award, we hope they keep this quality level for 2016.
