Burning cars are "a crime scene" says U.S. Consulate in Tijuana

The FBI thinks it was arson… or a New Year's firework mishap.

TIJUANA.- Even though nothing is certain, the destruction of four vehicles inside the U.S. Consulate's compound in the city of Tijuana has caused enough suspicion to bring in the FBI into the investigation, according to a Consulate spokesperson.

Yesterday morning, four vehicles used by the Consulate personnel were burned while parked in the Consulate's parking lot. No one was injured and no one was recorded by the security cameras. Still, both Mexican and U.S. authorities think this may have not been an accident.

U.S. Consulate spokeswoman, Preeti Shah, confirmed to local newspaper Frontera that the FBI is currently conducting an investigation and that "four vehicles were burned completely and one other was partially damaged." Two sedans, a pick-up truck and a van.

The cars had no previous mechanical problems, so the fire could've been arson.

Perhaps it could've been a New Year's firework? It's not impossible, even though no authority has mentioned it as a cause, but the fact that no one was seen starting the blaze and on that specific morning was January 1st, it may very well end up being the truth.
