Baby Sea Lion Rescued in Ensenada

The small creature will be brought back to its natural habitat once it gets better.

ENSENADA – After getting a call from the locals at Playa Misión, members of Mexico's Environmental Protection Agency (Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente [PROFEPA] in Spanish) went to the place where the very weak and still breastfed baby sea lion was found.

Authorities said its mom wasn't there and that the baby showed signs of weakness, weigh-loss and vulnerability, which could put his life in harm's way. The small creature was then taken to "Zoológico Internacional A.C." where it'll be healed from possible bites and feed it with a formula specially designed for seals.

According to the agency, once the baby seal is stable and in favorable conditions, it'll be returned to its natural habitat. They also said no evidence was found of the animal being affected by fishing or any other human activity.
