WASHINGTON Barack Obama is asking Congress for an emergency $1.8-billion-dollar fund in order to combat the Zika virus through mosquito control programs, vaccine research, education and improving the overall health care coverage for low-income pregnant women, this according to a White House statement given this morning.
"What we now know, though, is that there appears to be some significant risk for pregnant women or women who are thinking about getting pregnant."
The White House also said that since Spring and Summer is coming, the U.S. must be ready to quickly identify the local infection cases. "There shouldn't be panic on this. This is not something where people are going to die from it. It is something we have to take seriously," said Obama.
"We don't know exactly what the relations there are but there is enough correlation that we have to take this very seriously", said POTUS.
There are currently no Zika mosquito-transmitted virus cases registered in the U.S., but Americans have returned already infected from Central and South American countries.
There's been one case registered in Texas, it's believed it was transmitted after having sexual relations with someone infected with the virus.
