This Was Our Tijuana Dinner in the Sky Experience

Some wind, wine and craft beer

Tijuana is the latest city to offer having dinner whilst at a table being lifted by a huge crane up in the air and calling it "Dinner in the Sky" , and both special invitees and media were treated to the first taste

[p]this past Wednesday at Tijuana’s new Tourism Plan 2016 inauguration event presented by the Tijuana Conventions and Tourism Committee (COTUCO) on famous Avenida Revolución, and San Diego Red was there for the first ever dinner demonstration.

Our backpacks and bags were stored in lockers before taking a seat on the floating dinner table, after that you have to wait and wait and wait some more. Not because of the after-dinner conversations, but because they had to clean it between each session and the security measures taken beforehand for the 22 people and the chefs that hop onboard the table.

Each person is fasted to the chair with belts pretty similar to getting on a roller coaster. You can kinda move around but not bump into the others around you, you can also completely lower the backrest of your chair, but you’re not allowed to take off any of the restrains to snap a quick selfie at any given moment while on the air.

The table starts getting lifted slowly by a crane all the way up to 150-feet in the air. On this presentation we had appetizers from the Cien Años restaurant and the original Caesar’s salad, as well as wine and craft beer.

It was past 3 p.m. and the wind was moving the dinner table a little bit, hair on our faces and the salad would've flown away if it weren’t for the fork, that is if you’re on a corner seat or your back against the wind. It all really depends on the conditions up there.

Dinner in the Sky promises an adrenaline shot that will improve the taste of your meal and drink even more, this of course after making reservations and paying $180 dollars per person. A fee that includes a 5-course meal, including wine and beer. The whole thing lasts an hour and a half.

Dinner in the Sky has already been in Mexicali and Valle de Guadalupe in Ensenada. This time it’ll be on the Caliente Casino grounds starting on April 2nd and lasting for two months, after that period they’ll move it to Cumbres de Juárez, a suburb on the hills of Tijuana, giving you an even better view of the Tijuana and San Diego landscape.

For more information or to make a reservation, you can contact them through their Facebook page or send them an email to experiencia@dinnerintheskybaja.com or call them at (686) 557 4855.
