The Ensenada City council approved a decree naming its municipality as the Mexican Wine Capital, after a bill that was proposed this past February 25th.
Councilmember Máximo Rivas Valencia presented the proposal before the Urban Image Improvement of Ensenadas Tourism Zone Committee last month with the aim of strengthening the municipalitys ecotourism careers on a national scale.
According to Bajas Secretary of Tourism, the Wine Route is visited by more than 7,000 people, mostly Mexican nationals.
After its approval, Rivas Valencia stated that they will start an intense promotional campaign after the designation, including placing Ensenadas new title on its bordering limits in order to welcome national and foreign tourists.
There isn't much doubt about the Ensenada municipality as the most important wine producing region in Mexico, but one would think it's title would be bestowed on by an outside expert and not themselves.
