U.S. Tourists Are Returning to Downtown Tijuana

American tourism increased this year

The head of the Tijuana Conventions and Tourism Committee (COTUCO), Francisco Villegas Peralta, has reported a new spike in American tourists in the city so far this year.

"Tourism south of California's border has had an exceptional rise. Back in 2015, we had our best year in the last 10 and so far this year there hasn't been any decrease in tourism", explained Villegas to local newspaper Frontera.

Even though 78% of every 100 tourists Tijuana welcomes are Latinos, there has also been a rise in Asian tourists going to San Diego but visit Tijuana too.

The city's renowned street in downtown, Avenida Revolución, has been getting a lot of American visitors lately who come down and do a "walking tour", but the main tourist attraction has been the city's cuisine.

According to Villegas, most of Tijuana's tourism is mainly for its food and craft beer.
