Tijuana Restaurant Association Welcomes Food Trucks, at Last

After the City Council approved its first regulations on the matter

TIJUANA – As part of the new guidelines put in place by the current City Council this past February, Telefónica Gastro Park, a collective of food trucks and stands, has been one of the first of its kind to join the National Chamber of Restaurant and Seasoned Foods Industry Tijuana – Tecate (CANIRAC).

The head of the Chamber, Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, thanked all of the food trucks that make-up the park, for putting their trust into the current growth developments being done in Tijuana's restaurant industry.

According to Uniradio Informa, there are currently over 50 food trucks in Tijuana, an industry that wasn't regulated until now. This industry has become an important tourist attraction since it's one of the main reason why tourists come to the city in the first place. The traditional restaurant industry was apprehensive at first about the burgeoning movement that, perhaps unfoundedly, threaten to pull away their customers towards these type of quicker ways to eat lunch, which also offered many new types of food you didn't see in restaurants.

"Everyone knows what happened when the food truck movement started to take off in the city, however, the circumstances have changed, thanks to the regulations put in place by Tijuana's City Council, as well as the efforts made by the Food Trucks Association, this union and cooperation is now a reality", stated Badiola to Uniradio.

He also announced a food truck event in Tecate as well as second edition Food Trucks Festival in the works. So far they haven't confirmed the venue for this Festival or dates.
