Date Now Set for Opening of New Pedestrian Border Crossing at San Ysidro

Around 25 thousand pedestrians cross the border every day.

SAN YSIDRO.-PedWest, the new pedestrian border crossing point located between El Chaparral and San Ysidro, has now an official inauguration date set for July 15 of this year; only pedestrians going from México to the U.S. will be able to use it during its initial phase.

Through the combined efforts of Mexico’s and the United States governments, pedestrians trying to cross from North to South of the border will be able to do so in July, using El Chaparral’s border point’s West wing and continue through the newly built facilities, as well as the San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center’s new installation in Virginia Avenue.

According to the official statement from the Embassy, the North-South pedestrian flow will eventually be allowed at PedWest, which will have its own Intermodal Transportation Center for Tijuana in the future.

Close to 50,000 vehicles and 25,000 pedestrians cross the border in both directions every single day.

Statement from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.
