The 2016 Rosarito Art Fest is Just a Few Days Away

The event will be held, admission free, on May 28 and 29.

ROSARITO.- We are only a few days from the Rosarito Art Fest's seventh edition, an event that will showcase the work of over 80 plastic artists from Mexico and all over the world, including the U.S., France, Cuba, Argentina, Singapore, Tibet and Nepal.

The festival will be divided into 5 exposition areas, including: Plastic arts, performing arts, folk art, literary pavilion, and cinema. The new location for these cultural days will be on Popotla Blvd., Km. 30, on the Castillos del Mar zone.

Folk and contemporary danc presentations will take the main stage, where Tijuana's dance companies Lux Boreal and Péndulo Cero's participation are a highlight. Meanwhile, acoustic performances will be held in the lounge zone, where tenor Marco Labastida will perform, followed by the Pachuco Blues Band. Complementing this musical evening, classical and tango ensembles will appear.

In the literary pavilion, organized by publishing house Mañana Lloverá, a series of reading sessions for Baja authors' texts will be held. In the case of cinema, director Karlos Simón's documentary "Cozumel, un Paraíso en el Caribe Maya", third place in Spain's Donostia-San Sebastián International Submarine Film Cycle (Cimasub), will be projected, along with "Coyotes y Peregrinos" from Mexican directors Oscar Jesús Trejo Rosales y Agustín Gutiérrez.

Baja's gastronomy will appear in any festival involving creativity and innovation, as usual, and Rosarito's Art Festival is no exception. A plethora of Rosarito's and Ensenada's regional wines and cheeses; Spanish, Argentinian, Costa Rican, Salvadoran, and Mongolian culinary arts will have representation in the festival, sharing space with Baja California's own BajaMed cooking.

A series of conferences is also part of the festival; some highlights include Relief 2.0 and Art Impact Nepal, presented by artists Robin Low (Singapore) and Dorjee Durung (Nepal), who will talk about the economic recovery made of disaster-stricken areas made possible through the arts.

Artists and cultural promoters can attend workshops about Tax Payment in kind and Poetic Construction previous to the festival; they can also visit photographic exhibits that explore Rosarito through images called Enfoque Rosarito, and Cómplices, an homage to the region's great photography figures.

Rosarito Art Fest is a socially and environmentally conscious event, being the first of its kind in Mexico's Northwestern region to be "waste free" by installing trash separating containers. Also, performers and exhibitors will use biodegradable products and disintegrate all waste generated.

This festival is made possible through collaboration with Baja California's Cultural Institute (ICBC), the Municipal Institute of Arts and Culture (IMAC), the Playas de Rosarito City Hall, and with great support from the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), Xavier Villaurutia Center for Literary Creation, and the ImaginantesMX

Cultural Projects and Consultancy civil association.
