Tijuana's tourism sector has been arguing against the new measures implemented by the National Migration Institute of Mexico to regulate the entry of American citizens crossing into the city.
As a consequence of this program, people trying to cross from San Diego to Tijuana are now waiting in line for up to four hours, information that started making the rounds on social media.
Rodolfo Figueroa Pacheco, INAMI's delegate in Baja California, has been pointed as the one responsible for this extended waiting times; non-Mexican visitors now have to fill out a form.
"The form is in English and Spanish, but many of the tourists from outside the U.S., like Europe, Asia, etc., don't speak English, and the tourist guides have to translate for them, creating long lines", said the Vice President of the tourism department in Tijuana's National Chamber of Commerce, Julián Palombo Saucedo to local newspaper El Sol de Tijuana.
Regional tourist guides claim that this set of processes and rules discourages people from coming back to Tijuana. "It seems that the enemy lives at home", they add.
News outlet Uniradio Informa highlighted the fact that Souther California residents visiting Tijuana have expressed inconformity with these new measures because of their time-consuming nature, taking time away from their schedules.
