Mexican President's Plane Almost Involved in Crash

Enrique Peña Nieto almost suffered a plane crash above the Mexican state of Colima.

The plane where Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto was travelling almost crashed into another plane last month, but the Mexican government made no comment about it after the near-accident.

According to Yuridia Sierra, a columnist for Mexican news outlet Excélsior who claims to own a transcript from the interaction between the airport and the plane says as follows: "Traffic is coming toward us…" "Golf Alpha Tango, turn right"… "Continue on button number two"… "Sir, I'm on frequency number one"… "Yes, sorry"… "You're not on any frequency?"… "Alpha 01 has top priority"… "Yes, sorry, continue on towards the landing strip".

That day, Peña Nieto was on his way to a Navy Day celebration, as was scheduled on his calendar. His plane was supposed to land in Manzanillo, in the Mexican State of Colima, where the communication mishap between the air traffic controller, the presidential plane pilots and the King Air airbus.

This incident was attributed to the lack of training and organizational skills of the Manzanillo air traffic controllers. Despite this, the Mexican government has not commented on the matter.
