Tijuana Chef Receives Commendation for Promoting Mexican Cuisine Abroad

This award is given by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Relations to restaurants promoting Mexican cuisine inside and out of the country.

TIJUANA. Mexico's Ministry of Tourism (SECTURE) is constantly promoting Baja's cuisine both inside and out of Mexico, as part of an official mandate by the Federal Government to showcase and expand the country's culinary art. That is why Chef Javier Plascencia's distinguished career was officially recognized yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) with the "Come and eat" award.

This was announced by Oscar Escobedo Carignan, Baja California's Secretary of Tourism in the state, adding that the SRE, presided by Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, only gives their "Come and Eat" award to restaurants that put a distinguished effort to promote Mexico's cuisine outside of the country.

"Come and Eat" is a nationwide public project that boosts and supports Mexico's foreign culinary presence, which has an enormous historic, social, economic and cultural value, and actions such as this help promoting, expanding and preserving such traditions.

This distinction was given to five restaurants, includingChef Enrique Olivera's Cosme, located in New York City, and Chef Plascencia's Bracero restaurant, located in San Diego.

Escobedo Carignan explained that Bracero has obtained several awards, including Best Restaurant 2015, given by the San Diego "Eater", and was nominated for Best New Restaurant by the James Beard awards, which are considered the Academy Awards for restaurants.

The "Come and Eat" recognition was given to Plascencia during an official ceremony in Mexico City, organized by the SRE, Claudia Ruiz Massieu and Luis Videgaray, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit.
