Tijuana's New Public Transit System at 65% Completion

The project will be working by November, said the Secretary of Urban Development

The new Tijuana Comprehensive Transit System (SITT, in Spanish) the Bus Rapid Transit project better known as the Ruta Troncal is now at 65% completion, said Roberto Sánchez Martínez, Tijuana's Secretary of Urban Development and Environment.

Sánchez said that the necessary infrastructure to launch the first bus will be done by August, before preliminary tests begin.

"The infrastructure is at 65%, and we estimate it to be done by the end of July, where the whole project will be at 50 to 60% completion and the rest will be over by August", he said.

The bus circulation tests will commence in September, when the new traffic signals and lights that were installed around the city specifically for this project will be tested as well. They include a special software that measures the current traffic level of the area and will tell bus drivers to speed up or slow down.

When asked about the time when the project as a whole will be working, Sánchez said that "this will become a reality in November."
